The Up Side Of Hard Times - A Little Help From My Friends

When hard times are upon you, it's good to know you have people in your corner. I have gotten so much support from friends old and new - some are complete strangers, some are dear friends that I have known for years; some I've met and some I have never met in person.

One reason I have put the time and energy into blogging that I have is because of the blogging community. I have met some wondeful people who have become like family even though we have not seen each other face to face. Bloggers take care of our own.

I'd like to take a minute to say 'thanks' to my bro JurassicPork from Welcome Back to Pottersville. One of the coolest projects I've ever taken on as a blogger was a Photoshop extravaganza of "It's A Wonderful Life" recast with some of our favorite political and social characters from the Bush years. JP wrote the copy and designed the pictures; I did the Photoshop. I have to say I thought it was brilliant. I laughed my ass off while doing it.

JP has been kind enough to throw a blast my way re: our mortgage debacle.

It's this kind of thing that gives me motivation to keep on keeping on. Thanks, bro!

I am so sorry you are going through this. You don't deserve it.

You should not have to think about this, but have you considered bankruptcy?

The clock stops ticking for 3 months the minute you file, and your lawyers can file electronically on your behalf.

Whatever road you choose, please know I'm keeping you in my thoughts.

Bless you, Sharon!

We already filed for bankruptcy - that's how we got them to keep from selling it March 15. But we found that it only gives you until the bankruptcy is completed - like 15 days or so - to keep them from having access to the house. The minute the bankruptcy is completed, all bets are off.

We got an extension for the sale date till April 26. We are not going through with the bankruptcy - we don't really have enough actual debt for it to be much of an option. We're trying to hook up with a lawyer right now. Our broker says that is really our only option.

Yes, professional legal counsel is vital.

Fingers crossed for your finding a great attorney!

Update - we've found one - no small feat considering the number of attorneys we called who will not touch these things with a ten-foot pole. We've given him our documents and will see what comes next.

Hey, anytime, Sis. anytime.

I've always had a weakness for big, beautiful blondes, astrivishnyway.

jurassicpork said...

That was supposed to be "anyway". Somehow the word verification got embedded into it.

Where's my fucking coffee...?

Alicia Morgan said...

I like that word. Let's keep it - astri-vishny-way!

Update - lawyer bailed. Oh well.

jurassicpork said...

Fuck me running. People have been advising you through me to tell you a lawyer can help you better than a real estate broker.

So now what?

Alicia Morgan said...

Well - now, I guess, we're done. We don't have the money to throw away, and no decent lawyer would take our money for a case we would probably lose. So at this point, we don't see any options. We'll just see what are options are when the time comes.

I am deeply sorry to hear that. And very tired of lawyers who don't advocate.

We took the bankruptcy route at one point, even though our only debt was the house. This was because we had actually gotten an adjustment from the mortgage company, but hundreds of dollars of monthly fees were added to the "adjustment," which made the "new, improved" payment impossible to maintain.

We had to go through with the Chapter 13 just to get the fee payment schedule adjusted.

Some people deserve serious prison time.

You do NOT deserve this, and are still in my thoughts.

Sis, read the last three comments on the top post. This guy named Templar may be on to something. See if you can find a lawyer who'll take this pro bono or for cheap or who will suspend their retainer to take on this case.
