Thought For The Day - 6/30/05

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Historically attributed to Ben Franklin (here's an interesting article on it).

BTW, it's Wanda's byline, too!

  1. Alicia,

I am one of the guilty parties. I have used that saying more than once. However, no matter if it is a misquote of Franklin's or not, no matter how you say it, I believe the axiom rings true today . . . especially today. But I like the original, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." What beautiful words!

  4. It's so very true, Wanda - it's funny how you can read something over and over and not see it; it's there on your front page, big as life!

Every day, we seem to be more in danger of losing it.

  5. I went over and read Wanda's post. It was sure a thing of beauty. You know, after reading your posts and Wanda's, I feel one coming on, too. Of course, I will have to wait until the weekend evening. Work has to come first:(

  6. Give it a day to build a head of steam, and then...pow!

    We'll be waiting.

  7. Alicia - yeah, another day and a good night's sleep should help. I've been sleep deprived lately. I finally picked up one of those mattress pads that are conducive to sleeping. I slapped that on the bed, made it up and tried it out. Wow! It wasn't the egg crate pad I wanted, but I was able to sleep through the fireworks the neighbors are shooting off. Enough sleep and I should be able to shake off the fuzzy brain syndrome to get clear thoughts:)
