I Love Helen Thomas

Q The other day -- in fact, this week, you said that we, the United States, is in Afghanistan and Iraq by invitation. Would you like to correct that incredible distortion of American history --

MR. McCLELLAN: No, we are -- that's where we currently --

Q -- in view of your credibility is already mired? How can you say that?

MR. McCLELLAN: Helen, I think everyone in this room knows that you're taking that comment out of context. There are two democratically-elected governments in Iraq and --

Q We're we invited into Iraq?

MR. McCLELLAN: There are two democratically-elected governments now in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are there at their invitation. They are sovereign governments, and we are there today --

Q You mean if they had asked us out, that we would have left?

MR. McCLELLAN: No, Helen, I'm talking about today. We are there at their invitation. They are sovereign governments --

Q I'm talking about today, too.

MR. McCLELLAN: -- and we are doing all we can to train and equip their security forces so that they can provide for their own security as they move forward on a free and democratic future.

Q Did we invade those countries?

MR. McCLELLAN: Go ahead, Steve.

All press briefings available here. At least, for the time being...

Heken Thomas is (in my humble opinion) the only member of the White House Press Corps who never gave an inch, no matter which party was in office. To whit, here is a link that goes a long way to prove it. Helen
Thomas is the greatest

Alicia,

Thanks! I lover her, too.

Have you heard of the WayBack machine? It's way cool. Go here and put in the URL - WH press briefings, for example - and you can see earlier versions of the page. At least, that's how it works for most web sites. I wouldn't put anything past these history-rewriting a-holes.

That's so cool, Crabby! I had not heard of it. I'm glad someone is archiving this stuff, because it would not surprise me to find all kinds of information 'disappeared' as if by magic. I hope they get as much pertinent information as they can before the curtain falls...

Robert - thanks for the Helen link. She is just so righteous - in the true sense of the word.

You gotta love good ole Helen. Or anyone who call's McClellan on his gross distortions of the truth. I almost wonder if he really believes the bs he spouts. Surely not even he can be that stupid.

If the current leaders of either country said tonight we want US troops out of our country , off our soil within two weeks would the US comply. We all know they would not. In fact said leaders would be declared thugs and removed from office.

Wanda, as a little hint as to whether Scott really believes what he is saying, allow me to introduce into evidence the following synonyms for "spin":

contrive, cook up, create, devise, dream up, frame, hatch, imagine, invent, make up, think up, and vamp.

by the way, I got these from Thesaurus.com, I didn't just "spin" them out of thin air.
